IC Information:
Name: Dextera
Fandom: Baroque
Timeline: In the -2200 Phase, after being killed by a Meta-Being.
Age: Appears to be around 17 or so.
Appearance: Dextera is a white male teenager of average height, although he has a notably thin frame. He has short bright blue hair and dull blue eyes. He usually wears a plain sleeveless turtleneck with a long coat and loose black pants. Wrapped around his arms and hands are bandages up to his elbows and Dextera has one bracelet on each of his wrists.
Abilities: Dextera has the power of Purification, which takes a bit of explaining. In his world, humans are twisted by their Baroques, common delusions, which twist them into grotesque shapes. They either become Twisted Ones (like Longneck) or Meta-Beings (like Nicl and Nicr). Twisted Ones retain their minds while Meta-Beings don't, becoming monsters that lash out at anyone who disturbs their reality.
Dextera can purify someone of their Baroque, severing them from their delusion. This is achieved by killing them (it’s never stated what happens to them if killed another way or what happens if Dextera's Purification powers are used on a normal human). He can purify with his bare hands or with his sword.
The Angelic Rifle is another weapon he can use as well. It’s capable of purifing a Meta-Being in one shot and it’s powerful enough to purify the Absolute God. However it can only carry five rounds and more can’t be obtained.
He can also regenerate slowly if he is resting, provided he keeps himself healthy. To do this, Dextera can eat hearts (yes, physical hearts) and scraps of flesh. Unfortunately, he can't do anything about a severed arm and something as extreme as decapation will leave Dextera pretty much dead.
Personality: Dextera is, for the most part, a very simple person on the surface. He’s quite – due to being a mute – and is somewhat unexpressive, allowing events to pass by without much of a reaction.
Inside though, is someone who is confused, suffering and terrified.
When talking to the Horned Girl, who speaks a person’s thoughts, she reveals that Dextera has no memory of his past and has a sense of guilt eating away at his heart. He knows he’s done something wrong, some kind of horrible sin but he has no idea what it is. But it’s because of this guilt that he believes the Archangel when the man says he’s the one who ruined the world. What else could lead to guilt like this?
Dextera represents a sort of bleak, trusting hope in his world. When the Archangel tells him to go into the Neuro Tower and purify the Absolute God to ease his sin, Dextera does so without question because it’s the only consistent thing he has. The world doesn’t make sense, the people won’t tell him what’s going on and he himself doesn’t know anything because of his memory loss. But the Archangel is consistent, appearing and telling him what to do next every time he dies. Dextera trusts the man because he’s so lost and despite his deaths and failures, he continues to go back into the Neuro Tower in the vain hope that maybe this time it will finally work.
In a flashback to Dextera’s childhood, his brother comments on his strategies in chess as a “rushed move”. He isn’t a leader and while Dextera isn’t stupid by any means, he’s also very simple-minded and not good with long-term plans. He’s pretty determined, however, and once he has his mind set on a task, he will do it. Despite dying over and over in the Neuro Tower and being told that it wouldn’t work (or simply being called crazy), Dextera continues to enter and try to purify the Absolute God because he knows it’s the only way to ease his guilt and it’s the one thing he knows about the world.
He has his own thoughts – he wonders why he has this guilt and his memory is gone and slowly begins to piece things together, like the Littles and Longneck’s reaction to the cultivating fluid. When given the pieces back, Dextera can put them together over time but because of his lack of understanding the world he comes off as very simple. He has a sense of curiosity and in the end wants to do the right thing but he’s too preoccupied with the guilt eating away at his heart. It doesn’t help that Dextera doesn’t understand the world, but at least he’s trying.
History: Dextera was the smaller and weaker of a set of conjoined twins. He and his brother were attached at the hip but they shared a heart. Because of this, only one could be awake at a time. They played chess, taking turns when one would wake up, and writing notes for the other sibling for when it was "their turn". However, one heart couldn't keep both of them alive, so they were dying. The choice was made to separate the two, which doomed Dextera's brother because he wasn't the one with the heart.
Meanwhile, The Absolute God had returned to the world. In Baroque, God is a physical being. The Absolute God used items called Consciousness Orbs to filter the world. Each orb is attached to another in a way, and ideas, information, and items can be transferred through them. They gather at the bottom floor of a building known as the Neuro Tower—the sanctuary of the Religious Order of Malkuth, and the place where God dwells.
However, because of the Order of Malkuth experimenting with Consciousness Orbs and the transfer of information, the Absolute God was beginning to lose grasp of reality and when God's reality shifts, the reality of the world shifts. The common delusions that people held began to grow and physically affect them, twisting their bodies and distorting them. The Order of Malkuth took it upon themselves to Save God and try and fix what was happening.
They failed.
Not everyone within the order agreed, however. The Archangel took it upon himself to pour more distorted data into the consciousness orbs (as well as in fake consciousness orbs created to transfer only information,) and God began to go madder and madder. The Archangel's plan was to remove Pain from the Absolute God, and create a Mad God completely incapable of realizing her own insanity. He then wished to collect her Pain into an ampule and fire it within her, letting the shards of God's Pain explode into her and destroying God herself. He gave orders to Dr. Angelicus and Longneck to begin removing Pain from her, which became embodied by small angels called Littles.
The Archangel wished to collect the Absolute God’s Idea Sephira. An Idea Sephira is the core of a person, the very embodiment of everything they are into a small crystal and if he had the Absolute God’s Idea Sephira, he could shape the world into his ideal one – a world without the pain of distortion or suffering.
On the other side of the Order, a high-ranking group known as the Koriels had a different idea. The Koriel's consisted of 12 members, one of which being Dextera. Rather than allow The Archangel to destroy God and create a new world, the Koriels wished to fuse a human with God and give her words. They wished to understand God's will, rather than simply destroy her. For this, however, a human would have to be fused with The Absolute God.
Dextera was picked because he had “lost” half of himself when his brother died. On May 14, the Koriel tried the Dabar fusion and it nearly succeeded. However, the Archangel interrupted the fusion and Dextera and the Absolute God were torn apart. Dextera lost his memories and his voice but gained the ability to purify while the Absolute God gained a voice to speak with but there was now a gap where Dextera was supposed to go. She created two Divinities – Alice and Eliza – to fill in that gap, who would go on to wander the Neuro Tower.
This event also triggered The Blaze which sped up the distortions, turning everyone into a Twisted One or a Meta-Being. The world soon fell into ruin afterwards.
Meanwhile, the Archangel labeled the Koriels as traitors and locked them within Confinement Coffins within the Neuro Tower. Dextera, however, he kept. Because of Dextera's ability to purify (and his absence of memories) he could be used to further Archangel's plans in purifying the Absolute God. To ensure that the task could be completed, Archangel cloned Dextera.
Each clone was instilled with the 'memory' of a sort of test-run— Appearing on the surface of the Outer World, meeting the Archangel and receiving the Angelic Rifle, and repeatedly being told that he must go to the bottom floor of the Neuro Tower and purify God to atone for his sin of ruining the world. They also retain the memory of the clone before them due to a consciousness orb—so if one were to die or fail in some way the next would begin again at the surface, starting over with no experience or equipment, but with all the information gained by the previous one.
It's sometime between this cycle of life and death that Dextera arrives at the Facility.
